Amazon is hosting a hardware event today in Seattle. Reports came out last week revealing that the company sent out invitations for a device and service-related event. While they didn’t reveal what kinds of devices they’ll be releasing, it is safe to assume we may get updated versions of longstanding product such as the Echo as well as brand new gadgets.
At last year’s event, Amazon announced new Fire TV updates—revealing the Fire TV Recast, a DVR for over-the-air television—and the same is expected this year. Amazon is likely to announce updates to existing devices such as the Fire TV Sticks or launch entirely new product.
Earlier this month, Amazon announced the launched a brand new Fire TV Cube so news regarding that device is less likely. The updated Fire TV Cube now sports a hexa-core processor — which according to Amazon, is more than twice as fast as the original Fire TV Cube. The device can stream 4K UHD at 60 FPS, with support for HDR, HRD10+, Dolby Vision, as well as Dolby Atmos audio.
Since Apple+ and Disney+ are launching in November, it is not completely out of the question for Amazon to announce additional content or channels to Prime Video as well.
At the event last year, Amazon revamped most Echo products— the Echo Dot, Echo Plus, and Echo Show—with the exception of the standard Echo, so it might be getting an update this go round. The company is also expected to launch a new speaker to compliment its new lossless tier for its music streaming service as well as some Alexa-powered earbuds which were reportedly in the works last year.
Other miscellaneous devices that are possibly going to be a part of the event are a mobile home robot and a health tracker that can interpret your emotional state based on your voice when paired with a phone app.
