Starting October 15, the 13-episode season of “Star Trek: Discovery” streams weekly. In its next iteration, the USS Discovery is far from home, in an unknown future, trying to restore the tattered Federation.
Before that occurs, CBS All Access will also launch “Star Trek: Lower Decks” on August 6. The animated sci-fi series is set in 2380 on the USS Cerritos, one of the Starfleet’s least important ships.
The streamer has a bonanza of “Star Trek” inventory, including “Star Trek: Picard” and “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.” There is another CG-animated show in the works, “Star Trek: Prodigy,” at Nickelodeon. (CBS All Access and Nickelodeon are both owned by ViacomCBS.)
The cast for “Star Trek: Discovery” includes Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones (Commander Saru), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Commander Paul Stamets), Mary Wiseman (Ensign Sylvia Tilly), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), David Ajala (Cleveland “Book” Booker) and Michelle Yeoh (Philippa Georgiou).
The “Star Trek” channel on Pluto TV is also live. The first show up is “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Pluto TV was acquired by ViacomCBS in January 2019 for $340 million.
