Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network to Launch in 2021, Along With ‘Fixer Upper’ Reboot

It looks like we’re going to have to be a bit more patient in order to see Chip and Joanna Gaines back on our TVs. The Magnolia Network, their joint venture with Discovery, is now set to launch in 2021, along with a reboot of “Fixer Upper.” The original launch for the network was set for Oct. 4, 2020, but it has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

News of Chip and Joanna Gaines’ comeback became official last April after rumors had been circulating for a while. The couple had decided to take a break from filming after having been the number one unscripted show on cable since they launched back in 2014. “Fixer Upper” attracted 75 million viewers in the show’s fifth season, 19.6 million on a weekly basis, Deadline revealed.

“We had not been planning with this network to include ‘Fixer Upper,’” Magnolia Network president Allison Page told Deadline. “When they said good-bye to the show three years ago next month, they said they needed a break but as it turns out — and thankfully — a break is literally what it was. We did not expect it or see it coming, and it’s a wonderful wonderful surprise. ‘Fixer Upper’ is a cultural phenomenon that took an entire programming category by storm when it launched in 2014, and we can think of no better way to launch this network.”

Magnolia, which is a rebrand of the old DIY Network, also announced the launch of two new original series. The channel will house an untitled project featuring interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn and “Self Employed” (working title) with entrepreneur Jonathan Morris.

The two shows will join 10 previously announced original unscripted series which will be available at launch. Due to the coronavirus, production had to be shut down on some, while others were still in pre-production and a few were completed.

“It became very clear that, while we had a lot of of individual shows, we weren’t going to be in a position to have enough of episodes of each of the shows,” Page stated. “We would’ve probably been fine for launch and maybe for a week or two but to have full seasons of all the shows that were in production, we realized that we were going to need to delay, and we committed to ourselves to try and hit as early 2021 as possible.”

While we still have to wait for Magnolia Network to launch, the DIY Network is currently available on Philo or as an add-on to fuboTV, Sling TV or Hulu Live TV, so you can stream in the meantime.
