As first announced in December, Court TV is finally coming back in the air in May. Unlike the cable exclusive channel which ultimately became truTV, the new Court TV is targeting cord-cutters.
Beginning May 8th, the channel will start broadcasting shows OTA, which can be receive by antenna in nearly 70 markets, as well as live streamed on streaming media players like Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, iOS, Android, and CourtTV.com.
Their app and website will not only include content like Call 911, Jail, and Hot Pursuit, but also the nation’s most compelling, high-profile cases over the past 20 years available on demand.
According to Jonathan Katz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Katz Networks, the decision to move a live feed of Court TV to expand visibility has been a welcome one amongst distributors, advertisers and consumers.
“The response to the new Court TV from distributors, as well as advertisers and consumers alike, has been overwhelmingly positive. We are in active conversations with many more cable and satellite providers and we fully expect Court TV’s availability to expand even further across all platforms in the months ahead.”
With Court TV’s latest announcement, the network will continue to bring high-profile courtroom dramas to viewers, as it has for nearly two decades, with the new distribution running content 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will be available to be seen on cable, satellite, over-the-air and over-the-top. While the first trial to be covered is still to be announced, the Court TV weekday schedule will kick-off daily at 9 a.m. ET, with live coverage of the most important and compelling trials being conducted across America.
In addition to the announced upgrades to Court TV beginning on May 8, the network also announced new over-the-air agreements, which added 48 markets.

In a previously-announced agreement, Tribune Broadcasting will carry Court TV in 22 markets, with St. Louis; Norfolk, Virginia; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Greensboro, North Carolina and New Orleans launching the network on May 8, and New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Miami-Fort Lauderdale in November. The launches will drive the Court TV’s over-the-air penetration to over 80 percent of the country and 25 percent on cable by the end of the year.
