After 11 hysterical seasons, “Modern Family” is coming to an end. The series finale takes place tonight at 9 p.m. ET on ABC, which will be preceded by “A Modern Farewell,” a retrospective about the show at 8 p.m. ET.
Afters years of bringing laughs to living rooms across the nation, the cast of “Modern Family” is naturally emotional about the show’s closing. Because of the quarantine, some of the cast — Jesse Tyler Ferguson in particular — has been able to sit and watch the show in real time, along with fans.
“We had a really nice last few weeks together as a cast and we had a really wonderful wrap party and I’m just really grateful that we got to have that closure,” Ferguson told The Wrap. “I think it’s going to be really emotional to watch it on television … Now that I don’t have anywhere to go, I’ve been able to sit down and watch the show in real time, which I haven’t been able to do before. So I think it’ll be interesting to watch it while all of our fans are watching it for the first time.”
“Modern Family” is a light-hearted mockumentary that brought humor to the trials and tribulations of three different families. The show followed patriarch Jay Pritchett, played by Ed O’Neill, who is married to a much younger, Colombian woman, (Sofia Vergara) as he navigates the dynamics between his daughter Claire (Julie Bowen), and her family as well as his son, Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), who lives with his partner, Cameron (Eric Stonestreet).
