The Monster Hydro Cup, which takes place at Long Beach, California, with no fans, will be made up of eight main draw teams (per gender) — six auto entries based on AVP points and two teams from Friday’s qualifiers, according to the AVP. April Ross and Alix Klineman come into the tournament as the number one seed, followed by Canadians Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes at number two.

Pavan/Paredes and Ross/Klineman were, respectively, ranked in the first and second positions and were expected to compete in the Olympics, before the coronavirus shut everything down and prompted cancellation of the 2020 Olympics.

On the men’s side, Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena hold the number one spot while Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb are second. Both men’s teams were also in the running to represent Team USA in Tokyo in a tight race with Tri Bourne and Trevor Crabb prior to the cancellations.

The Monster Hydro Cup will be a $200K prize purse for the winning team and an additional $50K bonus purse per gender is being offered should the same team win the Champions Cup.
