This year’s Challenge Cup will take place with only eight teams split into two groups. The Orlando Pride, which was slated to be the ninth team, had to withdraw from the tournament after some outbreaks of COVID-19 were discovered on their team, CBS Sports reported.
Nonetheless, the competition will still have some notable names to watch out for. U.S. women’s national team players Rose Lavelle, Crystal Dunn and Julie Ertz are some of the high visibility players who will be participating as well as England’s Rachel Daly and Spain’s Vero Boquete.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all players were given the option of abstaining from participation, with no impact on their contract status or benefits. Christen Press of the Utah Royals FC and Megan Rapinoe of OL Reign are some of the notable USWNT players who have opted out,” according to CBS Sports.
