Figueiredo comes into the fight looking to secure a clear win. In his February bout with Benavidez, the scale cost Figueiredo the title after he failed to make the weight requirement needed to claim the flyweight belt, according to CBS Sports. The opportunity almost slipped away from the 32-year-old Brazilian again after he tested positive for COVID-19 last week. His second test came back negative, however, and the match will go on.
This will be Benavidez’s fourth attempt at the championship. He’s lost his previous three attempts — twice against Demetrious Johnson. Although a victory over Figueiredo seems improbable, “Benavidez was looking good against Figueiredo until a clash of heads left him open for that finishing punch” back in February, ESPN noted.
