Netflix Has Nearly 140 Million Subscribers Worldwide After Adding Record 8.84 Million Subscribers

Netflix announced their Fourth Quarter results this afternoon. The company announced nearly $4.2B in quarterly revenue by reaching nearly 140 million paid subscribers around the world.

The company has added almost 8.8 million new paid subscribers since last quarter and are forecasting an additional 8.9 million in the First Quarter.

In the U.S., Netflix added 1.5 million new subscribers bringing their U.S. Paid Subscribers to nearly 58.5 million. The company generated almost $2B in revenue from their U.S. streamers.

In comparison, Hulu announced last week that they had surpassed 25 million subscribers. In April, Amazon revealed that they had 100 million Prime subscribers, but according to a report by Reuters in March about 26 million U.S. customers stream videos on Prime Video.

Netflix comes into 2019 with competition on the horizon. Later this year, Disney, WarnerMedia, Apple will each launch streaming services, while NBCU announced on Monday that they will launch one in early 2020.

Despite this, Netflix announced their largest price increase ever on Tuesday. The most popular standard plan, which comes with the capability to watch Netflix on two screens at a time in HD, will see the largest price increase, from $11 to $13 per month.
