Netflix Taps Amy Adams to Star in ‘Kings of America,’ Janelle Monáe’s ‘Antebellum’ Heads Straight to PVOD
Amy Adams is slated to star in Netflix’s series “Kings of America” directed by Adam McKay, who directed her in “Vice.” The series is about three women and their relationship to Walmart: a company heiress, an executive and a store saleswoman-preacher who launched the biggest class-action suit against the retailer in U.S. history.

”Antebellum,” the horror film starring singer-actress Janelle Monáe (“Hidden Figures”) is going straight to PVOD on September 18. Originally slated for a theatrical movie release August 21, Lionsgate switched gears. The title will be available for $19.99. Monáe plays a writer who is sent back to the slavery era in the Deep South. The film is written and and directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz.

Lizzo just got a first-look TV deal from Amazon. The Grammy winner is best known for her hit song “Truth Hurts.” Her music has reached over 4 billion global streams.

The “36 Questions” podcast is going to be the basis for a Netflix film, directed by Brett Haley (“Hearts Beat Loud”). It’s expected to be a romantic drama set in the music world. The podcast was created by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie.

Cinedigm announced a partnership with Fantawild, China’s largest theme park operator and the top producer of children’s animation in Asia, to launch a new global streaming service featuring “Boonie Bears,” it’s acclaimed series. The Fantawild channel debuts in the second half of 2020 on linear and AVOD platforms. Cinedigm will distribute select Fantawild programming in North America to its streaming distribution partners, including Apple, Microsoft, Netflix, Google, Amazon and Tubi.

“High Fidelity” starring Zoe Kravitz, was canceled by Hulu after one season. The show was based on the 2000 movie starring John Cusack. The series, originally developed for Disney+, moved to Hulu in 2019, given its adult fare. It was also told from the female point of view in this incarnation of the Nick Hornby novel.
