Paramount+ Arrivals of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ & More Delayed After Dates Shift

Multiple Paramount films are getting their dates pushed back and, as such, are getting their Paramount+ launch dates delayed.

Twitter account Exhibitor Relations Co. (@ERCboxoffice) recently tweeted updated release dates for three Paramount films: Jackass Forever, Top Gun: Maverick, and Mission: Impossible 7.

Jackass will release on February 4, 2022, while Top Gun is now slated for a Memorial Day 2022 release. Mission: Impossible 7 moves from May ‘22 to September ‘22. All three Paramount movies of will be available on Paramount+ 45 days after their theatrical releases.

After the shift, Sony’s Ghostbusters will take now over Top Gun’s Thanksgiving weekend slot.

This means after their already released, “Snake Eyes” there will be no more new theatrical releases to hit Paramount+ until 2022. The latest Mission: Impossible adventure won’t be on the service until November of next year.

Paramount is leading the charge on media giants pulling their films from theaters in lieu of releasing them simultaneously on streaming services and in theaters. The studio could also have been spooked by the terrible performance of Snake Eyes, which bombed so hard, Paramount released it for digital rental just three weeks after its debut in theaters.

Whether it’s that Paramount secretly doesn’t feel as strongly about their films as Disney did, or because they’re worried about rising Delta variant numbers across the country negatively impacting their theatrical releases, or whether they want to avoid a Scarlett Johansson controversy of their own, the company is perfectly content with kicking the can down the road until 2022.
