Report Finds Amazon Job Listings for 24/7 Live Programming

According to a new report by Protocol, Amazon has posted “multiple job listings over the past several weeks,” which indicate the company is looking into adding 24/7 live programming to the streaming service.

According to Protocol’s source, the e-commerce giant is “actively pursuing” deals to get live and linear programming onto Prime Video. Content would range from “news, music and sports as well as scheduled movies and TV show showings,” Protocol reported. They said “an Amazon spokesperson declined to comment.”

After reading The Streamable’s post, an Amazon spokesperson reached out to us to say “there is nothing new here” and that Amazon already offers “hundreds of live TV stations around the world today.” The spokesperson went in to say that “the job postings referenced are for the teams that currently support this work.”

Amazon has been actively trying to boost Prime Video’s live TV offerings. In March, the New York Yankees, Amazon Prime Video and the YES Network announced they were partnering to livestream 21 Yankees games during the 2020 regular season on Prime Video at no additional cost to Prime members.

Prime members in New York state, Connecticut, northeast Pennsylvania and north and central New Jersey areas will get access to all 21 Yankees games on Prime Video. These will be simulcasts of games produced by YES for airing on PIX11 and other over-the-air partners for Yankees telecasts, according to the YES Network.

The first game to be livestreamed on Prime Video was scheduled for Friday, April 17, but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In April, the streamer announced they renewed their deal with the NFL and will stream a dozen NFL games worldwide for the next three seasons on Prime Video and Twitch. In addition, the e-commerce giant will also have exclusive global rights to one late-season game globally on Prime Video and Twitch each of the next three seasons.

Overseas, the company also snagged rights to livestream four English Premier League for free in the UK. Amazon first began its partnership with the English Premier League last year and broadcast two games in the UK over this past Christmas season.

Editor’s Note: The Streamable updated the headline and text of this post after it was published to include comments from an Amazon spokesperson.
