Janice tiene dos hijos, Ray de seis años y Tony de nueve, éste es ciego y mudo y con un posible daño cerebral. El padre de sus hijos les abandonó cuando estaba embarazada del segundo. Un día, Tony comienza a tocar el piano que hay en la casa donde trabaja Janice y habla por primera vez.
