Following the success of “The Mandalorian,” fans of “Star Wars” have been eager to find out when the next spinoff will come out. While “The Mandalorian” was confirmed to be coming back for a second season in October, news of the “Rogue One” prequel starring Diego Luna has lulled.
Well, that has changed as the actor confirmed the series will, in fact, be shooting sometime this year. “Yes, we are doing it. We are doing it this year. It’s happening, and I’m getting ready for it,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “It is a different approach because of the beauty and it’s how things happen. It’s not just what happens. It’s not the typical way of approaching a story. It’s about how things happen, which in fact, is the same that happened in ‘Rogue One.’ You know the ending, but you don’t know how it happened, and we have that challenge in front of us again, which is exciting.”
The show was supposed to start filming last year, with Luna reprising his role as Cassian Andor and Alan Tudyk as droid K-2SO.
The news comes after Disney+ has had some production step backs on two highly anticipated series. In January, reports came out stating the streamer had halted production on the “Lizzie McGuire” reboot after the series’ creator and showrunner Terri Minsky stepped away from her role after filming two episodes. A new replacement has yet to be named and filming of the series was been put on hold.
Weeks later, Comicbook.com reported that Ewan McGregor confirmed filming for the untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series has been pushed back from summer 2020 to early 2021. “It just slipped to next year, that’s all,” McGregor told Comicbook.com. “Instead of shooting this August, they just want to start shooting in January, that’s all. It’s nothing more dramatic than that. It often happens in projects, they just wanted to push it to next year.”
