The husband and wife pair from Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna Gaines, announced that they are partnering with Discovery to launch a new network.
The channel, likely called the Magnolia Network, will join the Discovery family of networks which already owns HGTV, where the couple got their start.
It is expected that the channel will replace an existing Discovery channel, likely DIY, Destination America, or Great American Country. While there hasn’t been a firm timetable for launch, some speculate that it could be in the next 12-18 months.
On their Tonight Show appearance on Friday, they shared that a lot of the content will be filmed in Waco, Texas where they have their Magnolia empire.
In a statement, Discovery shared:
“Discovery is thrilled to confirm that we are in exclusive talks with Chip and Joanna Gaines. The Gaineses are exceptional people, true authentic storytellers and creative visionaries who will nourish millions of people with quality, family-friendly programming accessible on a 24/7 network and across all screens.”
This would not be the first time Discovery has partnered with a TV personality to launch a network. Back in 2011, Discovery launched the OWN Network as a joint venture with Oprah Winfrey.
