Disney Plus Halts All Marvel Studios Productions

Disney+ has added to the list of productions halted in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. They include “Loki,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and “WandaVision,” per Variety.

The trade pub notes shows with pre-production work will be done remotely.

The “Falcon and the Winter Solider” was filming in Prague. It had filmed in Atlanta, where Marvel Studios shoots most of its projects. The same restrictions are in place for “Loki,” which is slated for a 2021 release, and “WandaVision,” which was expected in December.

“Loki” stars Tom Hiddleston as the trickster god. Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino are part of the cast. Gugu Mbatha-Raw joined the project last month. The British actress was recently featured in Apple TV’s “The Morning Show.” No “Loki” plot points have been revealed. Kate Herron will direct all “Loki” episodes. She is known for directing Netflix’s “Sex Education,” with Asa Butterfield and Gillian Anderson, and “Five by Five” starring Idris Elba.

“WandaVision” follows two MCA superheroes — Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) — as they investigate something amiss in their universe and appears to be partly set in the suburban 1950s from teaser footage.

The six-episode “Falcon and the Winter Solider” is directed by Kari Skogland, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. Daniel Brühl reprises his role as Marvel Cinematic Universe villain Helmut Zemo.

However, more animated original content is coming to Disney+ thanks to Marvel Studios. It has commissioned Quebec-based animation studio Squeeze to create five episodes of “What If…?,” the first animated series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Separately, Variety also listed Disney films that paused production and pre-production: “The Last Duel,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Home Alone,” “Nightmare Alley,” “Peter Pan & Wendy” and “Shrunk.”
