Netflix Puts First LA Comedy Fest on Hold

Fern Siegel

Netflix is postponing its first Netflix is a Joke Fest, given the coronavirus pandemic.

It was originally scheduled for April 27-May 30 in Los Angeles, and Netflix had expected to record the show to air later in the year.

Some of the top names scheduled included Ali Wong, Amy Schumer, Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle, Jamie Foxx, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, Billy Crystal and Martin Lawrence. It also included an LGBTQ showcase.

In addition to the festival, a tribute to late comics, such as Robin Williams, Richard Pryor, Joan Rivers and trailblazer George Carlin, was slated.

The streamer issued a statement: “Based on the latest CDC guidelines, we’ve decided to postpone our Netflix Is a Joke Fest, which was scheduled to begin April 27. We’ve been blown away by the excitement from fans and we will work to reschedule it when we can.”

The comedy events site, NetflixIsAJokeFest.com, will update ticketholders on future plans.
