New York Yankees, Amazon Prime Video and YES Network Partner Up to Live Stream 21 Yankees Games

The New York Yankees, Amazon Prime Video and the YES Network announced today that they are partnering up and will live stream 21 Yankees games during the 2020 regular season on Prime Video at no additional cost to Prime members. The first game to be live streamed on Prime Video is scheduled for Friday, April 17, when the Yankees host the Reds at 7 p.m. ET.

Prime members in New York state, Connecticut, northeast Pennsylvania and north and central New Jersey areas will get access to all 21 Yankees games on Prime Video. These will be simulcasts of games produced by YES for airing on PIX11 and other over-the-air partners for Yankees telecasts, according to the YES Network.

The games will feature Amazon’s exclusive X-Ray technology, which allows fans using Android, iOS mobile and Fire TV to view live in-game stats, team and player details and real-time play-by-play details as they are streaming.

“We are always looking for ways to enhance the value of a Prime membership for our customers, and we believe Yankees fans are going to love having a selection of games on Prime Video this season,” said Marie Donoghue, vice president of Global Sports Video at Amazon. “We want to give Prime members access to the broadest selection of content across the broadest number of devices, and this deal gives Prime Video the opportunity to work with the top regional sports network in America and one of the most beloved franchises in all of sports.”

Reports that the Yankees were looking to partner up with Amazon first came out back in December. First, Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said teams had “approved unanimously a revised interactive media rights agreement.” The goal for the revised agreement “was the return of certain in-market digital rights — the rights that have essentially become substitutional with broadcast rights — those rights will return to the clubs.”

Days later, the New York Post reported that the Yankees were gearing up to become the first MLB team to let fans stream games without a cable subscription. According to the Post, the intent for the partnership with Amazon is to offer an annual streaming package in the long term.
