Tubi Signs Deal With Hisense to Bring Content to Vidaa Platform

Tubi announced today that they signed a deal with Hisense — the third-largest television manufacturer in the world — to bring content to Hisense subsidiary, Vidaa International. Starting spring 2020, Tubi customers in the U.S., Canada and Australia will have access to Tubi’s large library of content on the new Vidaa platform. And later this year, Tubi will launch in the UK where consumers will have access to Vidaa as well. The new Hisense TVs powered by Vidaa will have Tubi preloaded and placed on home screens.

The new range of Hisense’s ULED TVs with the Vidaa platform combines Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos with key picture technologies to provide customers a viewing experience that they would expect at a movie theater. The next generation of Hisense ULED TVs features its proprietary smart TV Operating System (OS), Vidaa U4.

“We’re excited to expand Tubi’s device footprint to include Hisense televisions with the new Vidaa platform, continuing our mission to make entertainment more accessible to everyone,” said Michael Ahiakpor, chief product officer at Tubi. “Hisense has been a global leader in consumer electronics and is a perfect partner as we ramp up our international expansion in 2020.”

Since the launch of the Tubi app in 2014, the platform has shown a steady amount of growth.
They announced that they surpassed 20 million monthly active users in May, with customers watching over 94 million hours of content. In September 2019, Tubi announced customers had streamed over 132 million hours of content — a 40 percent increase since May.

In November, Tubi announced it was available on Amazon Echo Show devices. The free ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) service brought its library of over 15,000 movies and TV shows to stream on Amazon Echo Show devices, making it the first AVOD service available on the device.
