Amazon & Google End Feud – YouTube, YouTube TV Coming to Fire TV, Prime Video to Chromecast

In a joint release this morning, Amazon and Google announced that in the next few months, the two companies will launch the official YouTube app on [Amazon Fire TV][fire-tv] devices and Fire TV Edition smart TVs, as well as the Prime Video app for streaming to Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices.

This ends an on-going feud between the two tech companies. In late 2015, Amazon stopped selling Chromecast devices since there wasn’t a direct way to watch Prime Video content. In retaliation, Google removed YouTube from Fire TV and Echo devices. In December, Amazon began selling Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra devices.

The YouTube app will be full featured and include the ability to sign-in to YouTube, access to your full library of content, and play videos in 4K HDR at 60 fps on supported devices. In addition, Google will also release YouTube TV and YouTube Kids apps for Fire TV devices later this year.

The Prime Video app will now be supported for Chromecast and Chromecast built-in users, joining already supported Android TV devices like NVIDIA SHIELD. Customers will be able to stream Amazon Originals like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, as well as the ability to subscribe to Prime Video Channels like Showtime, HBO, and CBS All Access.
