Amazon is teaming up with Vertigo Entertainment to bring the manga series “The Promised Neverland” to Prime Video.
The project will have some heavy hitters on board, starting with the brains behind “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” duo Rodney Rothman and Meghan Malloy, as well as actor Masi Oka. Malloy is slated to write the script while serving as executive producer along with Rothman, Oka and Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon.
Written by Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demizu, “The Promised Neverland” is a story about a group of kids who discover their orphanage is not as prim and proper as it is presented to be when they break a rule stating they are to never leave its grounds. Once they uncover the truth, they embark on a mission to escape and save all of the children. “The Promised Neverland” has sold over 20 million copies, according to Deadline.
The live action series is the latest Vertigo manga to make its way to Amazon Studios. It follows “Them,” which is currently in development and is executive produced by Lee, Yoon alongside Little Marvin and Lena Waithe.
