Apple TV+ Drops ‘Home Before Dark’ Trailer, Renews ‘Truth Be Told’

Apple TV+ has released the trailer for “Home Before Dark,” featuring Brooklynn Prince as a girl who juggles fourth grade and her investigative pursuits.

Produced by Jon M. Chu (“Crazy Rich Asians”), the first three episodes launch April 3 — the rest roll out weekly every Friday. “Home Before Dark,” the mystery series, already has an order for a season two renewal.

“Home Before Dark” follows a young girl who moves from Brooklyn to her father’s hometown. There, she discovers a cold case everyone has tried to bury.

The show was inspired by Hilde Lysiak, whose father was a journalist for the New York Daily News. She founded a local kids newspaper when the family moved to Selingsgrove, Pennsylvania, and at nine, scooped the professionals on a murder case. Lysiak is the youngest member of the Society of Professional Journalists. In June 2016, Lysiak signed a deal with Scholastic to co-write a series of four books with her father under the title “Hilde Cracks the Case.”

The “Home” series is created and executive produced by showrunners Dana Fox (“The Wedding Date”) and Dara Resnik (“Daredevils,” “Castle”).

Apple TV+ also renewed the NAACP Image Award-winning drama series “Truth Be Told,” starring Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer, for a second season. The series is created by writer-showrunner-executive producer Nichelle Tramble Spellman (“The Good Wife”). The script is based on Kathleen Barber’s novel “Are You Sleeping.”

Spencer reprises her role as a prosecutor turned podcaster who reopens the murder case of Warren Cave (Aaron Paul) after new evidence is discovered. Apple has confirmed the second season will cover a new case.

Finally, the streamer is working on “Masters of the Air,” about American bomber pilots in WWII. It is the third installment in the acclaimed WW II miniseries, a follow-up to HBO’s “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” Written by John Orloff, who worked on “Band of Brothers,” “Masters of the Air” will also be produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. This is the first series Apple will produce and film in its own studio.

Apple also signed a deal last year for a new espionage drama starring Gary Oldman.
