HBO Max is getting a jump on the 2020 holidays. It has given an order for “12 Dates of Christmas,” an unscripted dating series.
The Warner Media streamer follows singles that embrace the winter season in a search for love.
They begin their quest at a Christmas castle, engaging in various seasonal activities, such as ice-skating and sleigh rides. The goal is for each contestant to find someone to take home for the holidays.
But to quote the Bard: “The course of true love never did run smooth.” There are complications for the would-be couples, so their final outcome, in true rom-com style, offers added impact.
“Viewers can grab some hot cocoa, watch the romance unfold and be charmed right along with these hopeless romantics as they search for a Christmas miracle — true love,” said Jennifer O’Connell, executive vice president original non-fiction and kids programming at HBO Max.
“12 Dates of Christmas” is produced by Objective Media Group America, an All3Media America company. No date has been set for the premiere.
HBO Max will debut in May with 10,000 hours of curated content, including “The Griswolds.” At an industry conference on Dec. 10, AT&T COO John Stankey called HBO Max “a product that appeals to the entire family … It’s something that everybody in the family looks at and says: ‘That has something in it for me … I see myself in that offering.’”
