‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ to Stage ‘Beauty and the Beast’ in Season 2

Disney+’s popular series “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” has starting shooting its second season in Salt Lake City. Expected to premiere in late 2020, the upcoming season has slated “Beauty and the Beast” as the next musical production from East High.

The series will also add hits from its initial season, such as “Born to Be Brave” and “Just for a Moment.”

Nominated for a GLAAD Media Award, the show’s soundtrack hit the Billboard 200 at No. 31. Season one is currently available on Disney+.

Ricky Strauss, president, content and marketing, Disney+, promised that season two will be “filled with even more of the humor, heart and music that made HSMTMTS a break-out series on Disney+.”

“High School Musical: The Musical” is created-executive produced by Tim Federle (Oscar-nominated “Ferdinand”) who also co-wrote the book for the Broadway musical “Tuck Everlasting.”   

“The opportunity to ‘borrow’ one of the most classic Disney scores — and build our second season of “HSMTMTS” around it — is like having your wish upon a star granted,” added Gary Marsh, president-Chief Creative Officer, Disney Channels Worldwide.

Disney+ is currently shooting the live-action comedy “Godmothered,” starring Isla Fisher and Jillian Bell.
