About Daniel Jacobs vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Fight

For Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., making weight has been a long battle throughout his entire career and this go round was no different. He came in at 172.7 pounds, 4.7 pounds above the 168-pound super middleweight limit, DAZN reported. Prior to the ceremonial weigh-in on Dec.19, an agreement was made between the Chavez and Jacobs camps to keep the fight and change it to a catchweight of 173 pounds.

Jacobs hopes this fight will springboard him into an eventful 2020. After struggling to make the 160-pound weight limit required for middleweight, he is now officially fighting in super middleweight where he admits he’s at his best. “I’ve stated previously that it’s been really hard for me to make middleweight. I can make it, but sometimes when I make middleweight, I leave a lot in the gym. You don’t really get the chance to see my best self,” he told DAZN. “I think moving up to 168, I’ll be able to carry over those skills. I think it will follow through. I think that was the sole reason that I’m moving up … so I could be more comfortable.”
