NBCUniversal’s Peacock Will Launch Nationally on July 15 With a Free and Subscription Version Starting at $4.99 a Month

NBCUniversal is throwing its hat into the streaming wars with Peacock. The company announced the streaming service will launch nationally on July 15 with a free and subscription version starting at $4.99/month. An ad-free version will be available for $9.99 per month. The price is right on par with Disney+ for $6.99/month and Apple TV+ for $4.99/month. Comcast’s Xfinity X1 and Flex customers will be able to access the service earlier on April 15.

NBCUniversal made the announcement official today at an investor meeting at Studio 8H of 30 Rock in New York.

Peacock is slated to have more than 15,000 hours of programming, including NBC powerhouses “The Office,” which arrives in 2021, and “Parks and Recreation.” In addition, Mike Schur, the creator of “The Good Place,” and Lorne Michaels of “Saturday Night Live” fame will contribute new shows.

Other original programs announced today include Tina Fey’s “Girls5Eva,” a Kevin Hart interview series titled “Hart to Heart,” “Intelligence” with David Schwimmer and a racing series with Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers made appearances at the investor meeting to announce that “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” will be available earlier in the night on Peacock Premium starting at 8 p.m. ET and “Late Night with Seth Meyers” at 9 p.m. ET.

In addition, NBCUniversal announced Peacock will provide live coverage of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics opening and closing ceremonies before airing on NBC in primetime.

“By delivering timely and topical content like breaking news, live sports, and watercooler moments from late night, Peacock is uniquely bringing a pulse to the world of streaming that does not exist in today’s marketplace,” said Matt Strauss, chairman of Peacock and NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises.
