Netflix Reveals ‘Murder Mystery’ Was the Most Popular Title on the Service in 2019

When it came to attracting viewers, 2019 was a big year for Netflix, despite losing some subscribers in the second quarter. The service released a list of its most popular programming and the Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston-helmed “Murder Mystery” came out on top. The movie, which came out in June, was reported to have been watched by over 30 million accounts in its first three days — making it the biggest opening weekend for a Netflix film.

The second most popular title was “Stranger Things” Season 3, which came out in July, followed by Michael Bay’s “6 Underground,” which stars Ryan Reynolds and premiered in December.

The list — which includes categories such as U.S. scripted series, films, unscripted and stand-up specials — is made up of programming that hit the streaming service in the 2019 calendar year and measures popularity based on the number of subscribers who watched at least two minutes of a feature or TV show in the first 28 days of its release, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Shows such as “The Witcher,” “You” Season 2 and Kevin Hart’s “Don’t F*ck This Up” have also been ranked despite not having been on the service for at least 28 days.
