After Reaching 28 Million Viewers, Snapchat Announces 10 New Original Shows, While Renewing Three Others
Yesterday at the Snap Partner Summit, the company announced 10 new Snap Originals which exclusively stream on Snapchat. The company started partnering with production companies to create original shows in 2017. The new shows are a mix of dramas, docu-series, horror, and a daily celebrity news show from BuzzFeed.
The new originals are expected to start appearing May. One of the series, Two Sides, tells the story of a breakup from both characters’ point of view at the same time. What’s unique is that it includes a split-tscreen, so viewers can see both perspectives simultaneously.
Snap also announced it would be renewing three existing Snap Originals: Endless Summer, Deep Creek, and The Dead Girls Detective Agency.
During the presentation, Snap shared that Endless Summer, a docu-series similar to the original Laguna Beach reality show, saw 28 million unique viewers. The Deadgirls Detective Agency, which follows a teenage girl who must find her killer is from the afterlife, saw 40% of those who watched the first episode — binge the entire series.

Drama
- Two Sides (New Form): Young couple navigates a breakup — told from both characters’ points of view at the same time.
- Can’t Talk Now (New Form): Teen soap that takes place inside the phones of a few high school freshman BFFs.
- Sneakerheads (Indigo): Follows the misadventures of three college freshmen as they navigate the crazy, shady, and mercurial world of Los Angeles sneaker culture.
- Commanders (Dakota Pictures): Two high school outcasts discover a retro computer with a mysterious code that can alter real life.
- Denton’s Death Date (Insurrection Media): Centers on Denton Little, a high school junior whose death date is only a week away.
Docuseries
- Compton Dreams (October Films): Docuseries following the highs and lows of three up-and-coming artists from Compton.
- While Black (Indigo): Docuseries that explores racially charged social issues through disarmingly candid conversations led by author, filmmaker, recording artist, and educator MK Asante.
Horror
- Dead of Night (Bazelevs): Teenage girl must escape a quarantined city full of zombies armed with only her phone.
- Stranded with Sam and Colby (Bunim/Murray): Two paranormal investigators go off the grid into a cursed Pennsylvania town.
