TikTok Hires Disney Plus Streaming Chief Kevin Mayer as New CEO

Kevin Mayer oversaw the rollout of Disney+, but he’s leaving the streamer.

His exit may be due to Bob Chapek’s recent appointment as Disney CEO, replacing Bob Iger. Mayer was passed over for the post, notes The Wrap.

Mayer, the former Disney streaming chief, will become CEO of TikTok and COO of ByteDance, its parent company.

Mayer, in turn, will be replaced by Rebecca Campbell, who was most recently the president of Disneyland Resort. The 23-year company vet becomes chairman, Direct-to-Consumer and International. Chapek called her an “exceptionally talented and dedicated leader with a wealth of experience in media, operations and international businesses.”

Chapek added that Mayer has “done a masterful job of overseeing and growing our portfolio of streaming services, while bringing together the creative and technological assets required to launch the hugely successful Disney+ globally.”

Josh D’Amaro has been named chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, replacing Campbell. Both he and Campbell report to Chapek.
