CNN Announces It’s Officially Launching On Pluto TV

Nick Dimengo

CNN, one of the largest and most recognizable news stations in the world, has officially announced today that it will now be available to watch on Pluto TV; a streaming TV station owned by Viacom.

According to the announcement, The CNN channel on Pluto TV will feature a curated playlist of short-form digital content from CNN’s esteemed anchors and storytellers, with the channel showcasing some of CNN’s award-winning original feature content for viewers to absorb, with the programming primarily focused on lifestyle and culture, issues such as climate change and the environment, as well as original investigations and revealing interviews. In essence, it’s another platform for a younger audience to watch CNN.

Viacom acquired the ad-supported Pluto TV streaming service for $340 million earlier this year. The service offers 100 linear channels of lifestyle, news, sports and entertainment content through partnership with 130 media networks, so adding CNN to the lineup makes sense given some of the other available content PlutoTV already has.

In an interview with Variety in early April of this year, Pluto TV Co-Founder & CEO Tom Ryan mentioned that the platform has already reached 15 million unique monthly active users — an increase from 12 million when Viacom first acquired them in January. With Pluto TV available to stream across several platforms like Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Chromecast, PS4, iOS, Android, and your computer, the service appears to be pushing all the right buttons to give its audience the types of shows and content they’re itching for.
