Hulu Ups Original Programming With ‘Woke,’ Elle Fanning Stars in ‘The Girl From Plainville’

During its press tour, Hulu announced the company’s upcoming original programming.

The content includes a semi-animated comedy series “Woke” starring Lamorne Morris, “No Man’s Land,” a drama about the Syrian civil war and season two of “Pen 15,” a middle-school comedy, set in the early 2000s.

In addition, Elle Fanning, currently starring in the streamer’s “The Great,” will also star in the limited series “The Girl From Plainville.” She plays Michelle Carter, convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2017 after encouraging her boyfriend, via text and phone, to commit suicide. Liz Hannah and Patrick Macmanus will co-write the series, based on an Esquire article by Jesse Barron.

Also upcoming is “The Next Thing You Eat,” from James Beard award–winning chef David Chang and Oscar–winning documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville. The pair also created “Ugly Delicious.” The six-part docuseries examines the pandemic’s impact on restaurants and our relationship to food.

On the renewal front, “Love, Victor” and “Taste the Nation,” hosted by Padma Lakshmi, have each received a 10-episode second season.

Separately, launch dates for several Hulu shows were released: “Monsterland” streams October 2, “I Am Greta,” the Greta Thunberg documentary film, streams November 13, “No Man’s Land” drops November 18 and Steven Spielberg’s reboot of “Animaniacs” debuts November 20.
