Mark-Paul Gosselaar to Officially Return as Zack Morris in ‘Saved by the Bell’ Reboot for Peacock

We’re so excited! Mark-Paul Gosselaar has officially signed on to reprise his role as Zack Morris on the “Saved by the Bell” reboot for NBCUniversal’s upcoming steaming service Peacock. The actor, who also stars as a series regular on ABC’s “Mixed-ish,” is limited to appearing on only three episodes since both shows are produced by different studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley are also coming back to their roles as A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano, and sources told THR that Universal Television is in talks to get Tiffani-Amber Thiessen to reprise her role as Kelly Kapowski as well.

The new “Saved by the Bell” tracks life after the originals leave Bayside High School, and Zack, who is now governor of California, comes under fire “for closing too many low-income high schools and proposes the affected students be sent to the highest-performing schools in the state — including Bayside.”

“Saved by the Bell” will be part of Peacock’s original slate that includes a reboot of “Battlestar Galactica,” while Soleil Moon Frye will return in an updated version of “Punky Brewster.” Other series coming to Peacock are “Rutherford Falls” with Ed Helms, “Dr. Death” with Jamie Dornan, Alec Baldwin and Christian Slater and a behind-the-scenes docuseries about “Saturday Night Live”

When Peacock launches in April, the service will bring over 15,000 hours of content, which will include news, entertainment, sports, late-night and reality from the various properties around the company. The service will also feature blockbusters and critically-acclaimed films from Universal Pictures, Focus Features, DreamWorks Animation, Illumination and content acquired from Hollywood’s biggest studios.
