Movies Anywhere Announces New Feature That Allows Movie Sharing With Friends
Movies Anywhere — a Disney operated cloud-based digital locker and over-the-top streaming platform — announced a new feature, Screen Pass, currently in a closed beta. The feature allows users to “share up to three movies a month from their collections with anyone with an Apple or Android mobile device.”
Screen Pass allows users to send texts to friends or family within the iOS/Android app and enables the recipient watch one movie. Users can send up to three invites per month and recipients have a limited amount of time to watch the film. Users have up to seven days to accept the Screen Pass and then 14 days to watch the film. Once they start watching the movie, viewers have 72 hours to finish it.
As it stands, Screen Pass works on most devices except for Roku, though the company is working on a solution, CNET reports. Not every movie will be available to share. The eligible films will appear in a designated section within the Movies Anywhere app titled, Screen Pass.
“The closed beta starts with a small number of customers today at 1 p.m. PT, and the company will be rolling out an open beta in early May. Movies Anywhere says the commercial rollout of the feature will then happen in late summer or early fall,” CNET stated.
Movies Anywhere is supported by most of the major studios including Disney, Universal, Sony, Fox and Warner Bros. The platform also aggregates films across multiple streaming services, including Apple iTunes, Amazon, Google Play Movies and TV and Walmart’s Vudu.
