Netflix May Finally Be Adding A Random Episode Option To Make Watching Simpler

Nick Dimengo

Anytime Netflix news hits the Internet, it’s like a firestorm, because the world’s leading streaming service is pretty much on everyone’s home TV, cell phone screen and tablet, making it impossible to avoid binge-watching all the time. And, according to the website Android Police, deciding what to watch on Netlifx might become so much simpler for us all.

That’s because Netflix is experimenting with a new feature that would randomly select certain shows for viewers — similar to how a music playlist shuffles songs — giving viewers a new experience that eliminates the hardship of deciding what to watch. In essence, it’ll take all those headaches that come with browsing just to find a TV show to watch out of your life, which is always a good thing.

The new feature will focus on giving viewers recommendations when they aren’t specifically searching for one on their own. Among the TV shows that are reportedly being considered by Netflix to add to this shuffle option are The Office, New Girl, Our Planet and Arrested Development, among others. The experiment was confirmed by a Netflix spokesperson, per Deadline, having this to say about the idea.

“We are testing the ability for members to play a random episode from different TV series on the Android mobile app. These tests typically vary in length of time and by region, and may not become permanent.”

According to the same Deadline piece, any show suggestions from Netflix would appear in a new row entitled “Play a Random Episode,” which would then have a red “shuffle” icon by them.
