New Google Chrome Extension Allows You to Throw Virtual Netflix Watch Parties

You may be social distancing right now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the company of your friends. Thanks to a new Google Chrome extension called Netflix Party, you don’t have to sacrifice those movie nights with your friends, according to USA Today.

Netflix Party allows for groups of friends to virtually get together and watch their favorite movies or Netflix shows. The extension also comes with a chat room, which allows people to share their reactions as they watch.

In order to use the feature, all members who want to be part of the party have to download the extension at in a Google Chrome browser. Once downloaded, go to and play the show or movie you want to watch, then click the “NP” button on your browser.

After that, you click the “Start the Party” button and copy the URL that appears, and send it to your friends. Once they open the link, they should log into Netflix and hit the “NP” button through their Chrome browsers as well and the party has started.

The extension also comes with the option to let the person who starts the party to be the only individual able to pause, fast-forward and rewind the program with the “Only I have control” box. If the box isn’t checked, anyone in the party can uses those features.
