Reese Witherspoon has been busy on the streaming TV front for years. She produced and starred in Hulu’s “Little Fires Everywhere” and Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show.”
Now she’s making a departure from dramatic roles to two rom-coms for Netflix.
The first, “Your Place or Mine,” is about two best friends, Witherspoon and Jason Bateman (“Ozark”). She wants to pursue a lifelong dream, so he steps in to help with her teenage son.
The project will be written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the screenplay for “The Devil Wears Prada.” This will be McKenna’s directorial debut.
The second project is “The Cactus,” Sarah Haywood’s bestselling novel. Here, Witherspoon plays a woman who discovers she’s pregnant, at 45, and decides to rethink her life going forward.
Witherspoon will produce both titles under her Hello Sunshine banner with Lauren Neustadter. Aggregate Films’ Bateman and Michael Costigan will also produce “Your Place or Mine.”
Witherspoon stated: “Both Sarah Haywood’s and Aline Brosh McKenna’s stories blend everything we love about traditional RomComs with strong, smart and determined female leads.”
Deadline first reported the news.
