A report from the publication The Information claims the retail giant is thinking about launching a Netflix or Amazon Prime Video competitor.
They hope to undercut the price of Netflix and Amazon at lower than an $8 a month price point, targeting a more cost sensitive consumer.
The Arkansas-based company already owns VOD streaming site Vudu, but has not yet offered a streaming subscription service like Netflix. The company did launch an ad-supported streaming service Movies on Us on Vudu which offers a library of free movies with in-stream video ads.
It is still not yet clear what Walmart’s strategy will be. They may consider adding the service to compete with an Amazon Prime-like bundle or they could simply try to compete with a lower cost standalone video product.
