Roku Adds More Than a Dozen Shows to Celebrate One Year of Kids & Family on the Roku Channel
Kids & Family on the Roku Channel celebrated its one-year anniversary yesterday, and to commemorate the milestone, Roku will add more than a dozen children’s programs to the platform. Shows such as “The Adventurers,” “Axel Show,” “Dr. Poppy,” “Garfield,” “JustJordan33” and more, will roll out onto Kids & Family throughout August.
Roku launched the Kids & Family section last August, with 7,000 free, ad-supported movies and TV episodes. The content came from 20 launch partners, including Lionsgate, Hasbro and Mattel with franchises like “Care Bears,” “The Cat in the Hat,” “Leapfrog,” “Little Baby Bum,” “My Little Pony,” “Rev & Roll,” “Super Mario Brothers” and “Thomas & Friends.” Roku also partnered with pocket.watch for exclusive 22-minute episodes of “Ryan’s World.”
In February, the streaming service announced the addition of “Sesame Street” short videos to Kids & Family. The offering features Elmo, Big Bird, Abby and the rest of the beloved characters free of charge. Users who are subscribed to HBO via Premium Subscriptions on The Roku Channel are also able to watch full episodes of the classic show.
Earlier this month, Roku announced that they reached 43 million active accounts in their Q2 2020 earnings report. That’s a 3.2 million increase from the 39.8 million active accounts Roku announced in their Q1 2020 earnings report back in May.
The company also said “streaming hours increased by 2.3 billion hours over last quarter to 14.6 billion” in Q2 and that the Roku Channel “was watched by households with an estimated 43 million people.”
