Philo Will Soon Let You Watch Live TV With Your Friends No Matter Where They Are

According to a report from TechCrunch, Philo is expected to release a new co-viewing feature early this year.

The feature will allow you synchronize your viewing with your family and friends, so you can watch TV at the same time. This would be the first time that any of the Live TV Streaming Services would have such a feature.

The way the co-viewing feature works is that after you find something to watch, you can share the link with a friend via email or text. Your friend would then be able to watch on their phone or via AirPlay/Cast to the TV.

Unlike services like most Live TV Streaming Services, which offer a traditional cable bundle for $40 a month, Philo offers entertainment-only channels for just $16. While it doesn’t have locals or live sports, the service includes major channels from A&E Networks, AMC Networks, Discovery, Scripps Networks, and Viacom, an unlimited DVR, and three simultaneous streams.

The company has used this as a chance to innovate on unique features for their subscribers. For example, the company has been working on a feature that will pair interests of groups like roommates to find the best things for multiple people to watch. This way you can find a show that everyone will like, not just that of the current user.

The company is also expected to to add additional add-ons to the service likely starting with premium channels like HBO, Showtime, and Starz. There has been speculation that the company is also considering adding broadcast and sports content, but it would likely not be part of the base bundle.
