Star is an extension of Disney+ that provides the service with an extra listing of shows and movies, tacking on more general entertainment programming geared for adults. One of the major strikes against Disney+ is its narrowly focused family-friendly collection. With the addition of content from Star, however, audiences will be able to enjoy the service with a newly broadened scope.

Star includes content from Disney-owned ABC, Hulu, FX, Freeform, and more. The content includes programming for more mature audiences, such as “Modern Family”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Family Guy”, “The X-Files” or movies like “Commando”, “Deadpool”, and Independence Day.

The content lives under the sixth title – after Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. To access the content on Star for the first time, you will first need to unlock it on your Disney+ account by confirming your account password.

Just like Disney+, with Star you also get four simultaneous streamers, up to 7 profiles, 4K streaming, and includes hundreds of avatars.

Since in most countries this is effectively a new extra channel for Disney+, there is a resulting slight increase to the price of the service. The Star streaming service costs SGD 11.98 / month, or SGD 119.98 / year (SGD 10.00 / month).

Current Disney+ users will not need to pay the extra fee until later in 2021.

How to Sign Up and Download Star on LG Smart TV

Star is available natively using LG Smart TV. Additionally, you may be able to stream to your LG Smart TV through Apple AirPlay (2018+ (webOS 4.0+) models).

Disney+ app on LG Smart TV

  1. Click here to sign up for Disney+.
  2. Once you’ve signed up, go to the Home Screen on your LG Smart TV.
  3. Launch the app store and search for “Disney+” on your LG Smart TV.
  4. Select “Download” to install the app.
  5. Once installed, log in using your Disney+ credentials.
  6. You can now stream Star on LG Smart TV.

Apple AirPlay

  1. Click here to sign up for Star.
  2. Install the Disney+ iPhone/iPad app.
  3. Once installed, log in using your Disney+ credentials.
  4. Make sure your Smart TV is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone/iPad.
  5. Start playing the content in the Disney+ app and select the AirPlay icon.
  6. Choose your LG Smart TV and it will start displaying on your Smart TV.

If you have a compatible TV and you don’t see AirPlay as an option, make sure you update to the latest LG Smart TV firmware.

What features are available on Star?

Up to 7 Profiles

Star allows you to create up to 7 user profiles.

Parental Controls

Star will include additional parental controls to help incorporate its new 18+ content. Set limits for profiles in the app based on content ratings, using a password PIN to prevent access to adult accounts.

Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+ and Netflix also have parental control features.

Up to 4 Devices

Star allows you to stream on up to 4 devices simultaneously.

Offline Downloads

Star subscribers have the same access to unlimited downloads of shows and movies as Disney+. Download content for offline viewing on up to 10 mobile or tablet devices. The only limit to how many downloads available at any given time is the storage space available on your device.

International Access

Star is an additional channel offered on Disney+ to select countries outside the United States. You will only be able to access Star when you are in a market that it is available, but if you download content offline, you can stream it while you travel.

Originals

Star will host a small handful of original shows and movies to their international platforms. Examples include “Big Sky,” “High Fidelity,” “American Horror Stories,” and “Solar Opposites.

TV Shows

Joining the TV shows already included with a Disney+, Star includes dozens of additional shows. This includes “Desperate Housewives,” “Family Guy,” “Modern Family,” “Scrubs,”Prison Break,” “Ugly Betty,”, “Grey’s Anatomy,” with more to come.

Unlike the base Disney+, Star includes 18+ programming. Users can set limits for profiles in the app based on content ratings, using a password PIN to prevent access to the adult accounts.
