6 Options to Switch from PlayStation Vue, With Shut Down Coming on January 30th

With just days before PlayStation Vue disappears, and with the Super Bowl this weekend, many are looking for a replacement for PS Vue. While there isn’t a perfect replacement for PlayStation Vue, we searched for the best options for streaming subscribers.

Is PlayStation Vue Shutting Down?

Last year, PlayStation Vue announced that they would be shutting down the Live TV Streaming Service on January 30, 2020.

The service was known for being the best option for sports fans because it included top cable channels, locals, regional sports networks, college sports channels, as well as NFL Network, NFL RedZone, NBA TV, MLB Network, and NHL Network — all for just $55 a month.

Now that PlayStation Vue is being discontinued, we compared channels, DVR, pricing, and plans of six alternatives for PS Vue subscribers.

If you want to compare your favorite channels, use The Streamable’s Matchmaker Tool to find the best option based on what you watch.

Six Alternatives for PlayStation Vue Subscribers

1. fuboTV ($55)

Last year, fuboTV added Viacom and Discovery channels giving it more Top Cable Channels than any other Live TV Streaming Service. With the new additions, the service now has 29 of the 35 Top Cable Channels — five more than PlayStation Vue. However, they recently lost Disney-owned FX and Nat Geo.

While you won’t get ABC, AMC, Cartoon Network, CNN, TBS, TNT, truTV, and WE tv, you’ll gain BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, and VH1.

In terms of sports, they are one of the only alternatives that carry NFL Network and NFL RedZone as part of their service. You’ll also get NBA TV, but you won’t be able to get No Channels. They also are the only service that offers a similar multi-screen (PIP) feature that many PS Vue subscribers loved for sports.

For those in New York, Boston, and Houston, they are one of the only streaming services that offer MSG/MSG+, AT&T SportsNet Southwest, and NESN. Due to a contract dispute, they are currently without Sinclair-owned Fox Sports RSNs.

They offer a $5 upgrade to their Family Plan, which includes 500 Hour DVR and Third Simultaneous Stream.

Cloud DVR

The service includes a 30 Hour DVR, which can be upgraded to 500 Hours, plus a third stream for $5.

Max Streams

The service includes 2 Simultaneous Streams, but you can add a Third Stream, along with a 500 Hour DVR for $5.

2. Hulu + Live TV ($55)

For the same price as PlayStation Vue’s Core Plan, you’ll get 26 of the 35 Top Cable Channels, including your local RSN. The service carries more ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX affiliates than PlayStation Vue, so you’re more likely to get them in your area.

In comparison to PS Vue, you’ll lose AMC and WE tv, but you’ll gain A&E, BET, Comedy Central, History, Lifetime, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, and VH1.

If you’re a College Sports fan, you’ll also get ACC Network, Big Ten Network, SEC Network, ESPNU, and CBS Sports Network.

Cloud DVR

Includes 50 Hour DVR (but you can’t skip ads), can upgrade to 200 hour DVR for $9.99 a month, which includes the ability to fast-forward through ads.

Max Streams

Includes up to 2 Simultaneous Streams, but can upgrade to Unlimited Screens in your home (and 3 on mobile) for $9.99 a month.

3. Philo ($20)

If you’re willing to sacrifice local and live sports, Philo is a great budget option that will give you 18 of the Top Cable channels from your PlayStation Vue plan. You’ll get channels from AMC, A+E, Viacom (MTV, VH1, etc), and Discovery/Scripps (Discovery, Food Network, HGTV).

In comparison to PlayStation Vue, you’ll lose Bravo, Cartoon Network, CNN, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, E!, ESPN, Fox News, Freeform, FX, FXX, MSNBC, Syfy, TBS, TNT, truTV, and USA Network, but you’ll gain A&E, BET, Comedy Central, History, Lifetime, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, and VH1.

Besides the cost savings, you’ll also get an Unlimited DVR and three simultaneous streams.

Cloud DVR

Includes Unlimited DVR.

Max Streams

Includes 3 Simultaneous Streams.

4. Sling Orange + Blue ($45)

For $45 (and just $35 for your first month) you’ll get 25 of the 35 Top Cable Channels.

You’ll get channels from AMC, Disney (ESPN, Disney), Discovery/Scripps (Discovery, Food Network, HGTV), FX, NBCU (Bravo), and Turner (TNT, TBS, CNN).

In comparison to Vue, you’ll lose Disney Junior, FXX, Hallmark Channel, and WE tv, you’ll gain A&E, BET, Comedy Central, History, and Lifetime.

Besides fuboTV, they are the only service that offers NFL Network and NFL RedZone, and are now the only service to get NHL Network.

One unique feature with Sling is that you can add additional channels through Extra packs like Kids, Comedy, News, and Lifestyle. For $5 each, or $10 for all four — you can add channels like MTV, VH1, E!, Disney Junior, and MSNBC.

They also have a Total TV Deal which includes all 7 Extra Packs and a 50 Hour DVR for $25. This means that you can get almost every channel available on Sling for almost the same price ($70) as PlayStation Vue.

Sling only carries NBC & FOX, it’s only in select markets, but you can either supplement with an antenna or a free service like Locast. They also are in a contract dispute with Fox Sports meaning that they only have limited Regional Sports Networks.

Cloud DVR

Includes 10 Hour DVR, Can Upgrade to 50 Hour for $5

Max Streams

Includes up to 4 Streams (Depending on Channel)

5. YouTube TV ($50)

While YouTube TV won’t give you as many cable channels as your existing PlayStation Vue plan, you will still get channels from Discovery/Scripps (Discovery, Food Network, HGTV), Turner (TNT, TBS, CNN), Disney (ESPN, Disney, ABC), Fox (FX, Fox News), and NBCU (Bravo, E!, MSNBC).

In comparison to Vue, you’ll lose No Channels.

The biggest loss though comes to sports, because YouTube TV doesn’t carry NFL Network, NFL RedZone, NHL Network, or beIN Sports. You’ll still get your local RSN, NBA TV, and MLB Network through YouTube TV.

Similar to Vue, YouTube TV includes a third stream and an Unlimited DVR.

Cloud DVR

Includes an Unlimited DVR.

Max Streams

Includes 3 Simultaneous Streams.

5. AT&T TV NOW ($65)

AT&T TV NOW is bit more expensive than PlayStation Vue, but it includes HBO. The service has fewer ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX affiliates than PlayStation Vue, so you may lose your local channels.

In comparison to PS Vue, you’ll gain BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, and VH1, but you’ll lose AMC, Discovery, Food Network, HGTV, Investigation Discovery, TLC, Travel Channel, and WE tv.

If you’re a College Sports fan, you’ll also get ACC Network, ACC Network Extra, Big Ten Network, CBS Sports Network, ESPNU, Longhorn Network, SEC Network, and truTV. But, in order to get your local RSN, you will need to splurge for their $85 Max Plan — which at that point, you mind as well choose another Live TV Streaming Service or switch back to cable.

Cloud DVR

Includes 500 Hour DVR.

Max Streams

Includes up to 3 Simultaneous Streams.
