Amazon Announces Echo Studio, Which Can Pair with Fire TV to Bring Dolby Atmos 3D Sound to Your Living Room

At their Amazon Hardware Event today, Amazon announced a new high-end version of their smart speaker called the Amazon Echo Studio. The device brings Dolby Atmos support, which means you will be able to experience 3D Audio in your living room. For streamers, the devices connects directly to Fire TV devices, meaning you can experience the Dolby Atmos audio with your streaming devices.

Amazon describes the experience as “listening to music with your audiophile friend that has the perfect set-up; when you’re front row at a symphony; or when you get the perfect seat at jazz club.” The performance comes as a result of a built-in 5.25-inch bass driver coupled with a bass port.

The device, which is expected to compete with higher-end speakers like Sonos One and Apple Home Pod, costs $199.99 with pre-orders beginning today. The difference with the Echo Studio to previous Echo devices is that it can fill an entire room with audio through a single device. Amazon, which launched a premium music service called Amazon Music HD earlier this week, has been working with music studios like Warner Music, Sony, and Universal to get additional Dolby Atmos tracks on the service.
