Google Brings YouTube TV to Amazon Fire TV Devices For The First Time

Earlier this year, Google and Amazon brought an end to their feud, which saw YouTube pulled from Fire TV devices and Prime Video removed from being used with Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices. In July, they officially rolled out the YouTube App to Fire TV and said that YouTube TV and YouTube Kids would be coming later this year.

Well, starting today, customers can download YouTube TV for Fire TV. The app is available on:

  • Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen)
  • Fire TV Stick 4K
  • Fire TV Cube (1st & 2nd Gen)
  • Fire TV (2nd & 3rd Gen - Pendant)
  • All Toshiba, Insignia, Element, and Westinghouse Fire TV Edition smart TVs

The YouTube TV app is full featured and include the ability to sign-in to YouTube TV, access to your DVR, and play videos in 4K HDR at 60 fps on supported devices.

The company has also integrated single-sign on with your YouTube TV account meaning that you can be automatically authenticated with your TV Everywhere credentials in other streaming apps. But besides that, there’s no Fire TV specific features or Alexa support, but that could change in the future.

This ends an on-going battle between the two tech companies. In late 2015, Amazon stopped selling Chromecast devices since there wasn’t a direct way to watch Prime Video content. In retaliation, Google removed YouTube from Fire TV and Echo devices. In December, Amazon began selling Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra devices.
