Amazon CFO Says Worldwide Streaming Video Hours Doubled Year-Over-Year

Amazon CFO Brian Olsavsky said that the company’s “worldwide streaming video hours doubled year-over-year, driven largely by Prime Video,” during their Q2 2020 earnings call today.

Amazon also listed the launch of Watch Parties, Prime Video Profiles and the premiere of Amazon Original series, including “Upload,” “Homecoming (season 2) and “Bosch” (season 6) as some of their Q2 highlights in a press release.

Just yesterday, Amazon Prime Video announced the addition of PBS Documentaries to the slew of channels available through the platform. The channel will house Ken Burns’ entire catalog of documentaries, “Nova,” “Frontline,” “American Masters,” “American Experience,” “Nature,” “Independent Lens,” “POV” and more. PBS Documentaries, which will cost $3.99/month for Amazon Prime and Prime video subscribers, launches on Aug. 4.

Earlier this month, Prime Video began allowing subscribers to create user profiles. According to a thread on Reddit, the feature was live in certain territories and went live in the U.S. on July 7.

Prime Video now allows you to “create and manage multiple profiles within your account with content personalized separately to each profile.” Users can have up to six profiles on one account, and each profile will have its own recommendations, watch history, etc. based on individual preferences. Prime Video users can create their profiles through the Prime Video website, on the Android and iOS versions of the Prime Video app, 10th-gen or higher Fire tablets, the Prime Video app for Fire TV and select devices, such as PlayStation 4.
