Comcast Reveals Peacock Has Garnered 10 Million Sign-Ups Two Weeks After National Launch

It looks like Peacock is is off to a good start. During their Q2 2020 earnings call today, Comcast revealed the new streaming service has already garnered 10 million sign-ups. The service first launched on April 15 for the company’s Xfinity X1 and Flex customers then went national on July 15.

While the number is a huge feat for the service, it still pales in comparison to Disney+, which reached 10 million subscribers only one day after launching.

Comcast hasn’t disclosed how many of those sign-ups are subscribers. In addition to there being a free tier of Peacock, both Xfinity and Cox customers get Peacock Premium for free. The number is still impressive, given the fact that it is still not available on Roku and Fire TV, which makes up 70% of all active streaming players.

In comparison, HBO Max earlier this week revealed 4.1 million customers activated their HBO Max accounts. Three million of those were retail subscribers, while the rest were wholesale subscribers through AT&T.

Just last week, TechCrunch said a report by app store intelligence firm Sensor Tower showed that Peacock amassed 1.5 million app downloads across the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the U.S. within its first six days post-launch.

This is 25 percent more than the 1.2 million downloads Quibi garnered over the same period post-launch in the U.S., but makes up a mere 12 percent of the 13 million downloads Disney+ received within the same timeframe. Sensor Tower attributed the gap with Disney+ to the fact that the latter has strong brand-name recognition, while the name Peacock doesn’t instantly link the service to NBC for customers. Disney+ also had an advantage in that the market was lacking a huge family-friendly streamer.

Comcast struck deals to bring Peacock to Apple TV, Android TV, Chromecast, Xbox, VIZIO SmartCast TVs, LG Smart TVs, iOS, and Android. The app is also now available to download on PS4.
