“Diary of a Future President,” the popular Disney+ series, chronicles the life of middle-schooler Elena Cañero-Reed and her quest to become the future president.
The series has received a 10-episode renewal order.
The cast for the comedy’s coming-of-age story includes Tess Romero (“Blind Spot”) as Elena, Charlie Bushnell, Selenis Leyva and Michael Weaver.
The show is executive produced by Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin,”), creator Ilana Peña (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”), Keith Heisler (“Fresh Off the Boat”) and Molly Breeskin. Peña and Heisler are also co-showrunners.
Rodriguez plays the adult Elena, the future Commander in Chief, who returns in a recurring role in the second season. She’s also attached to Paramount Pictures’ spec script “The Aliens Are Stealing Our Weed,” with Breeskin as executive producer.
Agnes Chu, senior vice president, content, Disney+, stated: “Families around the world have fallen in love with Elena and the Cañero-Reed family, and we are thrilled to bring Elena’s often hilarious and always meaningful journey through adolescence back for another season.”
David Stapf, president, CBS Television Studios, praised the series for “showcasing strong women both in front of and behind the camera.”
