During Fox Corp’s Q3 2020 earnings call today, CEO Lachlan Murdoch said Tubi generated a “total viewing time of over 200 million hours” in April. The figure is up more than 150 percent versus the prior year. He added that Fox expects to “drive long-term growth in the direct-to-consumer market” through Tubi.
Murdoch also noted on the call that Fox’s “The Masked Singer” is “the number one television show on Tubi,” which is key for “viewership and advertising impressions.” Tubi began streaming episodes of “The Masked Singer” last month.
No updates for monthly active users were provided.
In February, the free, ad-supported service announced that they reached 25 million monthly active users back in December.
Just last month, Fox Corp, the parent company of Fox, FS1, Fox News and Fox Business, acquired Tubi for $440 million. The deal is the largest acquisition for a free ad-supported streaming service.
In January 2019, Viacom acquired Pluto TV for $340 million. Sony sold their free streaming service Crackle to Chicken Soup For the Soul Entertainment, who subsequently rebranded it Crackle Plus. In February, Comcast acquired free streaming service Xumo, which offer on-demand and synthetic linear channels, for a rumored $100 million.
Tubi claims over 20,000 titles, almost four-times the library of Netflix. Tubi founder and CEO Farhad Massoudi continues to head the service.
