Starting in September, Chuck Todd, NBC News’ moderator for “Meet the Press” and host of “MTP Daily,” will launch a live-streaming political show on NBC News Now and Peacock, reports Variety.
The timing coincides with the upcoming November 3 election and the new landscape for the 2020 race.
The network is creating an additional production team for its streaming programs.
To accommodate the move, “Deadline: White House,” hosted by Nicolle Wallace, will air from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Todd’s previous “MTP Daily” slot. His show will move to 1 p.m.
Part of the reason for the shift is that TV news viewers are gradually migrating to streaming platforms. TV is still a lucrative business, but demographics are changing. And the group most sought-after by advertisers is the 25-54 demo.
While few big names have traditionally gone the streaming route, that is changing. Alongside Chuck Todd, Lester Holt hosts a “Kids Edition” of “NBC Nightly News” on YouTube.
Also, CNN debuted “Full Circle,” hosted by Anderson Cooper on Facebook Watch, on July 16.
