‘Palm Springs’ Scores Hit for Hulu, Breaks Opening Weekend Record

The Andy Samberg-Cristin Milioti romcom “Palm Springs” has scored a hit on Hulu.

The streamer told Indie Wire the “Groundhog Day”-like take on time warps broke the streamer’s opening weekend record.

When a wedding hook-up goes awry, the pair finds they can’t escape the venue or each other.

“Palm Springs,” which debuted July 10, had more hours viewed in its first three days than any other Hulu film in the same period.

In addition, it garnered huge interest on social media, earning the distinction of the most discussed Hulu original movie on Twitter in its first 72 hours.

The cast also includes Peter Gallagher, Camila Mendes and J.K. Simmons.

The film is screenwriter Max Barbakow’s debut as a director; Andy Siara (“Lodge 49”) wrote the screenplay. Barbakow is known for writing “The Duke: Based on the Memoir ‘I’m The Duke’ by J.P. Duke.”

“Palm Springs” made history at the Sundance Film Festival this year, selling to Hulu and Neon for just over $17.5 million, the most expensive in the festival’s history.
