Quibi Recruits Demi Lovato, Dr. Woo and FaZe Clan for New Shows

Quibi, the mobile platform launching on April 6, announced several new series. They run the gamut from talk shows to true crime.

First up, Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones”) is back in Quibi’s first teaser for “Survive,” its upcoming thriller. She and Corey Hawkins (“The Walking Dead”) are the only two passengers to survive a plane crash — and they will do anything to stay alive. “Survive” is one of Quibi’s “movies in chapters,” with each chapter 10 minutes or less.

“Pillow Talk With Demi Lovato,” features the actress (“Glee”) and Grammy-nominated singer, who sold over 2 million albums in the U.S. The 10-episode series addresses topics such as sex, gender identity, wellness and relationships, with both expert and celebrity guests.

“I’ve always considered myself someone that speaks honestly about issues that face my generation,” said Lovato, who is also one of the executive producers.

“Moving the Needle With Dr. Woo,” showcases Brian Woo, one of the most in-demand tattoo artists in the world. His fame has earned him 1.5 million Instagram followers. He’s also tattooed various celebrities, including Miley Cyrus, Drake, Jaime King and Ariel Winter (“Modern Family”) from his L.A. studio, Hideaway at Suite X. In the show, Dr. Woo will share aspects about his personal life and creative process.

In the true-crime realm, the series “Murder Unboxed” mimics the style of online “unboxing” videos. Each episode takes random items — a toaster, cash, liquor bottle — and introduces them one at a time. Actual investigators, prosecutors and witnesses of each case, along with stylized recreations, illustrate how evidence ties together and the burden of proof is met.

Quibi is also entering the esports world with “FaZe Up.” In partnership with FaZe Clan, a popular esports organization, Quibi is giving six skilled subscribers the chance to compete for a place on the FaZe roster. They will be selected and voted on by the Quibi audience. Participants get a chance to live the FaZe lifestyle and win big money.

So successful was “RuPaul’s Drag Race” that its season nine winner, Sasha Velour, is getting her own Quibi show. The eight-episode “Nightgowns” will showcase her creativity with members of her ensemble to craft perfect lip-sync performances. The two-to-three minute series looks at her life and backstory and how the fierce Velour puts her on singular mark on drag.

Music video director Sophie Muller, who has collaborated with Beyonce, Rihanna, Coldplay, Radiohead and Alicia Keys, will direct “Nightgowns.”

Quibi runs $4.99 per month for ad-supported streaming and $7.99 for the ad-free service.
